From: Alex Ott
Subject: bug in regexp search

This bug report will be sent to the Free Software Foundation,
not to your local site managers!
Please write in English, because the Emacs maintainers do not have
translators to read other languages for them.

Your bug report will be posted to the bug-gnu-emacs@gnu.org mailing list,
and to the gnu.emacs.bug news group.

In GNU Emacs 21.2.1 (i586-alt-linux-gnu, X toolkit, Xaw3d scroll bars)
 of 2002-07-20 on altair.office.altlinux.ru
configured using `configure i586-alt-linux --prefix=/usr --exec-prefix=/usr
--bindir=/usr/bin --sbindir=/usr/sbin --sysconfdir=/etc --datadir=/usr/share
--includedir=/usr/include --libdir=/usr/lib --libexecdir=/usr/lib
--localstatedir=/var/lib --sharedstatedir=/usr/com --mandir=/usr/share/man
--infodir=/usr/share/info --without-included-gettext --sharedstatedir=/var
--with-gcc --with-pop --with-x-toolkit --with-png --with-jpeg --with-xpm

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

When text readed from process in 'binary coding, then function
re-search-forward work not properly. This error arise, when i read my mail
from pop3 with gnus.

Expression (re-search-forward "^\\.\r\n" nil t) match on string where dot
set in last position of string, and string contain russian letter r (in
koi8-r encoding).

Thus my mail split in bad point and i loss my information

Here example of info from pop3, that will split buggy.
