shake off highlighted region but give up search position

Set up emacs so that the region is highlighted.  Now set a mark, now
search repeatedly for something C-s C-s C-s...  Notice that the
highlighted region is following us around, from the cursor upwards.
OK, we know the way to get rid of that annoying blue highlighting is
to hit C-g. <PAM> (<--sound effect) we get snapped back to the beginning
of our search, throwing away all the work of those many C-s's.
