This has already been fixed in the development version, along the lines
of what you suggest.  It is not easily possible to let vc-dired-mode
reuse dired-move-to-filename-regexp as it is defined in dired.el,
because file lines look slightly different in vc-dired-mode.  But the
changes in dired.el have now been carried over to vc.el and all should
be fine for now.
