I can.

`dired-format-columns-of-files' computes the number of columns it could
place in one line. While inserting the filenames afterwards, it'll put
blank space in lines with fewer filenames (as it usually happens on the
last one, or, as in Dan's example, the only one).

Not sure that is a bug and/or merits a fix, though.
