match-end doesn't work!

Actions that triggered the bug:

I tried emacs CVS and didn't show this (quite absurd) bug.
But I can't believe it's a bug of the emacs core, maybe it's some
funny interaction with some library, or maybe I'm doing some stupid 
error.
