Smtpmail server password ends up serialized to .emacs customization buff

From: Peter Wisnovsky
Subject: Smtpmail server password ends up serialized to .emacs customization buffer
Date: Thu, 30 Mar 2006 11:48:16 -0800

This bug report will be sent to the Free Software Foundation,
not to your local site managers!
Please write in English, because the Emacs maintainers do not have
translators to read other languages for them.

Your bug report will be posted to the bug-gnu-emacs@gnu.org mailing list,
and to the gnu.emacs.bug news group.

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

I use VM and the current version of smtpmail.el/sendmail.el I
downloaded from the CVS repository, which support the ability to
customize the smptmail auth credentials along the lines of:

 '(smtpmail-auth-credentials (quote (("my.mail.server" 25 "my.userid" nil))))

The last "nil" for password indicates I want to be prompted, since I
don't want it in my .emacs file.

If I send mail I get prompted for the password.
If I then customize another variable and say "Save for future
sessions" it serializes WHOLE customization variable set, including
the password, into my .emacs file. Gack!
