M-x shell does not like cmd.exe?

Hi.

I have a problem with M-x shell on windows.  To reproduce:
- ntemacs, w2k/xp
emacs -Q  or  runemacs -Q
M-x shell
regedit

Now regedit does start (can see it in the taskmanager) but IT'S NOT DISPLAYED 
until i exit/close
the shell with 'exit' or C-d.  The problem also happens with other programs.. 
calc, notepad. 
Funny thing is that i can start emacs from within M-x shell without that 
problem.

Oh please include me when answering as i currently do not have bug-gnu-emacs 
subscribed.
