1. Add a cross-ref from this node to node Subdirectories in Dired. And
add a cross-ref from that node to this node. If you are reading
Subdirectories in Dired, especially, you might like to know that you
need to reinsert an inserted subdir to get it back, after you have
used `C-u k'.
 
2. "Like the file-operating commands" - what commands are those? Where
are they described? List the commands and cross-reference the place
they are described. Similarly, for "in the same way as for file
operations". Don't assume that someone reads the whole manual
linearly.
 
3. "or on the current file" -> "or on the current file, if not".
 
4. Not too clear (ambiguous scope): "but it does not operate on the
current file as a last resort". Since this is important, rephrase to
make it clear.
 
5. "kill the line for a file that is a directory, which you have
inserted in the" -> "kill the line for a directory that you have
inserted in the".
 
6. What does this mean: "Hidden subdirectories are updated but remain
hidden"? Updating is about updating the display - remove the
sentence. The next paragraph even explains that updating involves
redisplay: "Updating the files means reading their current status,
then updating their lines in the buffer to indicate that status." If a
subdir is hidden, then reading its current status has no more meaning
than updating its lines. `l' is only about redisplay.
 
7. "Refresh the Dired buffer using SWITCHES as
`dired-listing-switches'." Looks like this was borrowed from some doc
string, in which SWITCHES is a parameter to some function. Makes no
sense here.
 
Likewise, "`C-u s SWITCHES <RET>' lets you specify": drop SWITCHES and
RET.  You are prompted; it is enough to mention `C-u s'. Also, this
does *not* change `dired-listing-switches' (which is not
buffer-local).
 
8. "This preserves all marks except for those on files that have
vanished." This sentence is unnecessary - it just confuses. If you
keep it, change "files that have vanished" to "hidden file
lines". (Hopefully, no files vanish.)
 
9. "If you use `l' on a subdirectory header line, it updates the
contents of the corresponding subdirectory." Remove "corresponding".
 
10. "This section describes commands to update the Dired buffer to
reflect outside (non-Dired) changes in the directories and files..."
The part about "outside (non-Dired)" is inappropriate.
 
11. "date/time order" -> "chronological order".
 
12. "The `g' command brings back...killed in this way..." No, "in this
way" refers to hiding an entire subdirectory, so this makes no
sense. Reword.
 
13. "normally listed in alphabetical order..." -> "listed in
alphabetical order, by default." Nothing normal or abnormal about
this.
