[ Emacs does not run on a bare Linux kernel.  Please call the system
  GNU/Linux. ]

IIUC the file is opened in c++-mode, right?  If so, it looks like
a pathological regexp (or something similar) in cc-mode.  Alan, can you
take a look at it?
