bug#3149: 23.0.92; MacOS curly double quotes are double-wide.

From: David Abrahams
Subject: bug#3149: 23.0.92; MacOS curly double quotes are double-wide.
Date: Tue, 28 Apr 2009 12:29:01 -0400
User-agent: Gnus/5.13 (Gnus v5.13) Emacs/23.0.92 (darwin)

Please write in English if possible, because the Emacs maintainers
usually do not have translators to read other languages for them.

Your bug report will be posted to the emacs-pretest-bug@gnu.org mailing list.

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

On MacOS, the following line appears to begin with a space, and there
appears to be a space before the period.

“valid”.

In fact, that's just because
the left double quote is displayed with needless space on its left, and
the right double quote is displayed with needless space on its right.

If Emacs crashed, and you have the Emacs process in the gdb debugger,
please include the output from the following gdb commands:
    `bt full' and `xbacktrace'.
If you would like to further debug the crash, please read the file
/Applications/Emacs.app/Contents/Resources/etc/DEBUG for instructions.
