Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

I'm at a loss to explain this, but when I do `M-x remember', shift+M ends
up being used as a prefix key for a few commands:

  <remap> <self-insert-command>   org-self-insert-command

  M-RET           org-insert-heading

For what it's worth, these changes in org.el have no apparent effect:

  -(define-key org-mode-map "\M-a" 'org-backward-sentence)
  -(define-key org-mode-map "\M-e" 'org-forward-sentence)
  +(define-key org-mode-map [(meta ?b)] 'org-backward-sentence)
  +(define-key org-mode-map [(meta ?a)] 'org-forward-sentence)
