emacs -Q
Eval this:
(defcustom foo 'start
""
:type '(choice (const start) (const end))
:group 'foobar)
M-x customize-option foo
1. Use the Value Menu to change the value to `end'.
2. Use the State menu to `Set for current session' (value is `end').
3. Use the State menu to `Set to Backup Value' (value is `start').
4. M-x customize-rogue
This error message appears:
"Symbol's value as variable is void: start"
The problem is the call to `eval' here:
(when (and cval ;Declared with defcustom.
(default-boundp symbol) ;Has a value.
(not (equal (eval (car cval)) ; <==============
;; Which does not match customize.
(default-value symbol))))
(push (list symbol 'custom-variable) found))
The sexp that is the arg to `eval' is `(start)'.

Windowing system distributor `Microsoft Corp.', version 5.1.2600
configured using `configure --with-gcc (4.4) --no-opt --cflags -Ic:/xpm/include'
