bug#8819: 24.0.50; completion in shell adds trailing space

From: Eric Hanchrow
Subject: bug#8819: 24.0.50; completion in shell adds trailing space
Date: Tue, 7 Jun 2011 19:49:05 -0700

This is emacs24 built from the git mirror of the bzr repo:

commit 8f1798b
Author: Paul Eggert <eggert@cs.ucla.edu>
Date:   Mon Jun 6 21:16:37 2011

    [ChangeLog]

    * configure.in: Add --with-wide-int.
    * INSTALL: Mention this.
    [etc/ChangeLog]
    * NEWS: Mention new configure option --with-wide-int.

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug. If you can, give
a recipe starting from `emacs -Q':

I started emacs with -Q.
Started a shell:
  M-x shell RET
Attempted to cd into a directory named ~/doodles/plt-scheme
  cd doo TAB
Emacs completed the directory name "doodles/", but inserted a space
after the slash, so that when I typed
  plt TAB
I wound up with

  $ cd doodles/ plt

and emacs blinked the screen and said "no match" in the echo area.

Emacs 23 works properly: there's no trailing space, so after hitting TAB
a second time, I'd be looking at

  $ cd doodles/plt-scheme/

If Emacs crashed, and you have the Emacs process in the gdb debugger,
please include the output from the following gdb commands:
    `bt full' and `xbacktrace'.
For information about debugging Emacs, please read the file
/usr/local/src/emacs-git/master/etc/DEBUG.
