I run gdb on a program compiled with g++ and I cannot get gdb to call
functions:

(gdb) p x
$1 = 1
(gdb) p bar(10)
(gdb) 

(no output, message "Problem parsing arguments: interpreter-exec
console") in *Messages* and echo area.

when I use a bad name, I do get an error though:

(gdb) p foo(1)
No symbol "foo" in current context.
(gdb) p y
$2 = 2

i.e., $1 & $2 above indicate that bar(10) was not even passed by emacs to gdb
