bug#11957: 24.1.50; switching between char-mode and line-mode for M-x serial-term

When in Char mode:
Major mode menu in the modeline contains
Terminal -> Line Mode
            Character Mode

When in Line Mode:
This entry is no longer there and there is no visible way to switch back to 
character mode

Side note: I hope that I remember the bindings for
term-line-mode: C-c C-j
term-char-mode: C-c C-k


My request is that the Major mode menu in the modeline for Line Mode allows to 
switch back to Char Mode
