bug#14331: 24.3.50; vc-dir not working

vc-dir is not working on a git repository. Executing "C-x v d" throws
the error "error in process sentinel: Invalid function: remove-function"
and the buffer is not updated with the list of modified files.

I am using Emacs trunk.
The git version on my machine is: 1.8.2.2
