Emacs manual: contrast node `Menu Bar' with node `Quitting'.  The former
writes `ESC ESC ESC'; the latter writes `<ESC> <ESC> <ESC>'.

IMO, the former is preferable.  (Note that (kbd "ESC") and (kbd "<ESC>")
both act the same, however.)
