Hi Eli,

It's not AUCTeX, I've just tested with normal latex-mode.

Here a reproduction recipe:

- create minimal latex file /tmp/test.tex
- start emacs:
  LANG=C emacs -Q --eval '(setq ispell-program-name "hunspell")' /tmp/test.tex
- M-x ispell
