Sneaky changes are not only caused by changed defaults. Some members of the team might have different tabs-indent-mode values set up in their configs. The only way to guard against that is to do the above anyway.
In short, these two languages are just too similar and inter-related to justify using the same defaults in this regard.
Well, like mentioned before, exceptions add complexity. So it's not like I really disagree.
