So, to answer your question:

  │ overriding-terminal-local-map), which is an interactive compiled Lisp 
function

  │ (isearch-yank-word-or-char)

  │ Pull next character, subword or word from buffer into search string.
  │ Subword is used when ‘subword-mode’ is activated.
