Could be, but less likely.  I looked at the Lisp scanner code and
didn't say anything that could explain this.  Moreover, the fid
command correctly shows both defmacro and cl-defmacro being present
in, say, lisp/ibuf-macs.el.

No, lid doesn't invoke Grep, AFAIR.
