Look at the following two strings.  The first should appear as a
rainbow-striped flag and the second as Cuban flag.  In Emacs built for
MacOS, they display as strings of blank space.

"🏳️‍🌈"
"🇨🇺"

Do you have fonts installed that support these codepoints?

Yes.  Yamamoto Mitsuharu's "emacs mac port" displays them properly on my machine. 


The default fontset arranges for these characters to be displayed by
the Symbola font -- do you have that installed?

I am AFK at the moment, but I think I do not have that font.
