Hi Ben

The correct names seem to be "build" and "host" systems.
On my PC I have a openSUSE  build-system and a MinGW host-system which
is installed in /usr/i686-pc-mingw32.
Have a look at http://mingw-cross.sourceforge.net/hello_autotools.html
"Building for MinGW".

I guess there is a separation of build en host envrionment needed and
the right environment should be checked. If no host system is
specified, the build system is the host system.

But changing the current situation seems a lot of work and there are
not much people enjoying the result yet. However if you wan't to
change it, I can check it on my system to see if I get some errors. If
you do'nt cross-compile you won't see a difference as build=host.
