For what it's worth, I'm with Bruce on this one. I would much rather be
able to view, copy and paste the password manually. Perhaps, as a
luxury, the password corresponding to the most recent (i.e. last-listed)
seed can be automatically copied to the primary (middle-click) clipboard
and cleared after a short timeout, but I don't think that's necessary.
In addition to the reasons that Bruce has outlined, I'll give three
more:
- some websites do not give a single text entry box for a password, but
rather they give several, in which the user is to enter a given
character from the password (i.e. they might have to enter the 3rd,
5th and 9th characters, each one in a separate text entry box).
- some websites do not allow passwords to be pasted into the text entry
box. I'm not sure if your proposed auto-fill mechanism depends on the
clipboard, but this is something to keep in mind
- some websites disable keyboard input for PIN entry, depending instead
on mouse selection of randomly ordered digits. I'm not sure if any
automated form-filling could get around this.
