We have been copying multiple volumes to a single tape with the System 5
version of cpio. The gnu version of cpio doesn't support this since it
takes the tape offline (i.e. ejects the tape) after reading the first
volume. There is no option to prevent cpio from doing this. I haven't
found anything in the cpio documentation that says cpio will always take
the tape drive offline unconditionally. Would it be possible for the gnu
version of cpio to make this behavior optional?
