Hi all,
we are not used to your project, just using tar, and think we'd find a little
bug - or is it a feature?
We run tar with the -W (verify) -v (verbose) and -R (list blocks with action)
options. In the verify
section, after rewinding, it announces block numbers continued from the last
written block. I think this is a bug. Also it has only minor effects it might
confuse users taking the last block number written for calculation of file
position in an archive.
If someone is going to change this, perhaps he might do one other little
modification, for the above position calc there will be errors because one does
not know the block the archive ends, only the start of the last file. I'd
suggest to integrate an output line like 'block xxxxx - end-of-archive'.
As far as it matters our system: SuSE linux 6.3, GNU tar 1.13.17 used without
compression, /dev/nst0: Compaq DLT 4000, used with compression.
So far many thanks for your very good work,
Bernhard Samtleben
