Hello, people.  This is the coordinator of the Japanese Language
of Free Translation Project.

Many people get confused by the differences between localization
for Japanese language localization for Japanese country.

I see that using of imperial years is not issue of language, but
issue coming from calendar system.  Thus any LANGUAGE can use
imperial calendar, as well as Hebrew, Islamic, Maya...

AFAIK, almost any SCRIPT can be used in order to represent
imperial years, including Latin alphabet, as well as Han + Hiragana
+ Katakana combined script (Jpan in ISO 15924).

I see that Gregorian calendar represented by Jpan script in EUC-
JP charset will be fine and enough for the default (ie
uncustomied with calendar) message in Japanese language.
