gettext odd behavior |

Dear Sirs
I tried to use gettext shipped in Slackware 8.0 Linux machine and could
not make it work. I downloaded what I think is the latest version and had
the same result.
To summarize:
address@hidden:~/gettext-0.10.38# LANGUAGE=pt_BR gettext -d gtk+ -s
'(unknown)'
(unknown)
Oooppsss!
address@hidden:~/gettext-0.10.38# LANGUAGE=pt_BR ./tests/tstgettext -d gtk+ -s
'(unknown)'
(desconhecido)
This is what it should be. As you can see the gettext compiled under "tests"
directory work like a charm. Why not '/usr/bin/gettext' do the same?
Due to this I cannot make any applications that need getttext work.
(I am trying IMP webmail program).
Would you give me some help on this, please?
Best Regards
