Hi guys,

I would like to install the GNU tar.

The problem is that I am not root on the host i would like to use it.
I thought it would not be a problem and I decided to download the file :

ftp://ftp.sunfreeware.com/pub/freeware/sparc/7/tar-1.13.19-sol7-sparc-local.
gz

I uncompressed the archive on my home directory and, tried to use the tar
but, I get errors like :

./tar[183]: 1: not found
./tar[184]: 1: not found
./tar[185]: 1: not found
./tar[186]: 1: not found
./tar[187]: 1: not found
./tar[188]: 1: not found
./tar[189]: 1: not found
./tar[190]: 1: not found
./tar[191]: 1: not found
./tar[192]: 1: not found
./tar[193]: 1: not found
./tar[194]: 1: not found
./tar[195]: 1: not found
./tar[196]: 1: not found
./tar[197]: 1: not found
./tar[198]: 1: not found
./tar[199]: 1: not found
./tar[200]: 1: not found
./tar[201]: 1: not found

Is this because the tar was not installed by a root on the host?

Thanks for your feed back

Johann
