Hi everybody, it's me the original poster. Well, as I use locate
interactively and never in scripts, I will just cautiously experiment
with its globbing next time i use it. I will remember that it has
near shell like globbing ... that is about all I can expect to
remember from this discussion reasonably.

Yes I remember that from back on Mandrake, but now I use "woody".
It would be neat to have switches to alter matching:
--fgrep style [i.e. plain strings] etc. good for us forgetful users.
