problem with tar on a Windows 2000 box

Subject: problem with tar on a Windows 2000 box

I am trying to do this command on a W2K box and get strange errors


tar vcf c:/temp/file.tar x:/tree/to/tar

tar seems to not like the drive specifiers. 

If I take the drive: off the command and make everything go to the
current drive it is happy
