I pretty much agree with everything you wrote.  I don't want to munge
the mainline code; the MinGW stuff should be in the 'pc' subdirectory.
As long as the changes are in the subdirectory I'm pretty much willing
to trust the judgment of whoever does the MinGW port.

My own feeling is that the mainline code shouldn't have to worry about
CRLF issues; it should just use '\n'.  There are a few concessions, to
handling files improperly imported from the DOS world, but I'd rather
not add more cruft like that.  In general, people should import files
correctly rather than modify all their tools to deal with bad files.
