So, there you have it. Docs updated, NEWS, and ChangleLog files updated also. FEEDBACK WELCOME, but based on the overwhelming response so far (none!), I will not hold my breath!
It appears to be easier to change GNU software to suit your preferences than it is to persuade the maintainers of a package to adopt foreign changes. This being said, you seem to be making some significant improvements and fixing some real bugs, so I hope you are persistent enough that your changes do get accepted into gettext....
