One correction and some more information. I wrote:
"...the next line of my first file ended with a LF CR LF, for whatever
reason, and the corresponding line in the diff output had the line ending LF
CR (ASCII 13 10)."
I meant ASC 10 13. Also, I failed to mention that the line in the first file
that ended with LF CR LF was followed by a blank line, so I guess diff used
LF as the line ending for that line, like it did with the first, and the CR
indicated the blank line. I'd have thought a LF would represent a blank
line.
