Bug (?): The LC_NUMERIC variable

Goood morning.

I am an AWK newbie on Windows XP SP2 and Windows 2000 SP4.
I used for same time to work with release 3.0.6, then I decided to upgrade
to the latest version (3.1.3.2) and some problems arose with numeric
interpretations due to my Italian Regional Settings. I solved my problem
setting properly the numeric settings in the Regional Settings (setting
the '.' as decimal separator and the ',' as thousands separator), but
since this looks like a dirty trick I looked in the gawk manual and found
out about the LC_NUMERIC variable.
I tried both it internally at my code (an assignment LC_NUMERIC=C in the
BEGIN statement) and externally (at the DOS prompt, before launching the
gawk interpreter) but nothing changes. (I also would like to know where to
find a list of the possible values for the LC_NUMERIC variable, since I
found it nowhere throughout the Internet...).

At this point, either I absolutely misunderstood how to use the LC_NUMERIC
variable, or there is a bug in gawk.

Would you help me please??

Thanks a lot for your effort.

Kind regards
___
