It shouldn't matter.  For that particular case, 'diff' does not
attempt to read the entire files into main memory.  I verified this
with 'strace'.

When you get access to the machine, please try the example I gave.  If
it works, but 'diff' does not work on your files, then that will be
useful information for isolating the bug.
