You give no other details about the file corruption and so it is
impossible to say. File corruption could be caused by an infinite
number of reasons. Infinity is a very large number. At this point it
is impossible for me to propose one cause as more likely over another.

Process hanging is not the same as file corruption. Are you having
file corruption? Or is your process blocking trying to write the
file? Please be specific. A process blocked writing to the file
doesn't indicate that the file is corrupted.
Often process hangs are associated with use of NFS. Problems with NFS
file locking have been many.
