I don't know. The translucent checkers make them very hard to see IMHO,
and the white points aren't my favorite either. I did flatten the shape
a bit, and lower the light elevation. Here are the newer settings:

All the same, in case it is a problem of the systems being used, I am
including two screenshots (NOT being forwarded to the mailing list) so
that you may see exactly what I see. The one entitled 'translucent' is
the one using your settings.

I like your scheme. I did some modifications to it though. The red color
chequers are make deeper, and the shape is adjusted. Here's my modified
