-lpng should also be added for completeness. My Makefile reads:

gnubg_LIBS =    $(gnubg_LDFLAGS) $(LIBPATH) -levent -lxml2 -lintl.dll 
-lgdbm.dll \
                -lglib-2.0.dll -lgdk.dll -lgtk.dll -liconv -lwinmm -lm 
-lpng -lz \
                -lfreetype
