Welcome to the club, Olivier ;-).

Start with the menue entries (watching the progress will always give you
better motivation). Go on with the other gui stuff. I guess there is
more use in it, because "console" players mostly don't need a
translation. 

In the menue entries, forget the "shortcuts", if you don't have the same
letter in your translation (I mean i.e. /_Analyse).

Think about how to translate some technical terms before you start and
create either a short list or use the "automatically" translation.

It will be a lot of work (nearly 3000 entries for now), and I needed
(with longer breaks) a year getting close to finish (round about 100
entries still left). It's a dumb work (sometimes) and at last I made the
best progresses in an ICE with a notebook during my weekly 3 h switch
from Rheine to Frankfurt and back.

Kbabel is a nice tool with lots of features. I started with vi,
hesitated to use emacs (I never managed more than configuring xemacs for
getting and posting news). Finally I went over to kbabel.
