First thing I tried ...

[yoda ~/src/gnubg]$cvs -t -z3 update -d board3d/
 -> main loop with address@hidden:/cvsroot/gnubg
 -> Starting server: ssh subversions.gnu.org -l joseph cvs server
cvs [server aborted]: no such directory `board3d'
 -> Lock_Cleanup()
