Hi Albert,

Rather than sending attachments (to me or the list), can you upload them on the web somewhere and send a link in your emails. I'm sure there was talk of a guidance email being sent weekly/monthly about this and other things - like top-posting :) Anyway...

From: "Albert Silver" <address@hidden>

I did some retouching of the previous 3D board I had made
(directional light reducing glare, rounded edges, better light in
general), and believe the modifications to be better. They are included
here, and do not entail changes in the textures used.
I need your boards.xml file (probably the one in the .gnubg directory). The gnubgautorc file only contains your current settings.

I am also attaching a new one that I called Nature-3D which uses
some new textures. I had initially tried using textures for the checkers
but it looked strange since they only covered a small part of the top of
the pieces, so I used plain colors instead.
I will add another option - which covers the whole piece in the texture.

I'm attaching the textures,
the textures.txt file, my settings, and a screenshot (jpg) of the
Nature-3D board. I wanted to do something fairly different now that
actual textures are supported.
Looks funky.

One comment, despite opting to not use textures for the checkers
I ran into two small issues:
- I could not use textures for Checkers2, only Checkers1. The
drop-down selector for textures was disabled.
You can only set one texture for both pieces (from chequer 1). Perhaps I can change it to make it clearer - not sure how...

- When setting the colors and textures for any part, there is a
small typo saying 'Shineness' as opposed to 'Shininess'.
I'll fix this.

- When changing from positional light to directional light, the
color background I had went white. The settings still showed the color,
but the actual background did not.
I can't reproduce this problem.

Hope you like the boards. I have tested their visibility in
terms pf playability, and had no trouble playing with them, which is of
paramount importance IMO. What good is a fantastically sophisticated
design if no one will/can ever play with it?
You are right, but everyone has slightly different tastes.

Jon
