I have to say I think this is not a solution as it is counter-intuitive.
The last thing one wants is to have a single exception of usage depend
on a keyboard shortcut, especially in something as basic as setting up a
position. Users will never figure this one out IMHO. And as stated in
another thread, the last thing you want is to force a user to carefully
read a manual or FAQ for what is supposed to be a painless process
(setting up a position). Why not simply have a second click ON the lone
piece make it disappear?
