Have you tried downloading and installing a more recent update? You can
find them here: http://users.skynet.be/bk228456/GNUBgW.htm

You can download the 3D version with the new interface, or you can
install a non-3D version with the old-style interface. Scroll down to
No.2 to make your choice. If you go for the 3D version, be sure to
download and install the 3D Package (highlighted in yellow).

Previously the program would crash only when doubling early in the game.
Now it is crashing on the latter part of the game too.
