I don't know if it's relevant or not, but I have noticed using win32 on
win2000 that there will periodically be periods of time while gnubg is
crunching a lot of stuff to the hard disk, and during that time CPU usage
goes way down. I am using the large bearoff db's so I understand there
should be times in a race position that there should be calls to disk, but
I've been surprised to see this activity in mid-game positions. I've got
plenty of free ram according to task manager.

But the wall clock time was much higher for the GUI, which suggests
that it was not runnable for a larger portion of the time, presumably
waiting n a syscall, perhaps a deliberate sleep or similar.
There's something wrong here, I'm not sure what.
