It's "just" a GUI editor with support for python. You can use the line
based editor after typing ">" instead -- or you can write your python
scripts in emacs and execute them under gnubg with: gnubg -p blah.py

I can also add a command "load python blah.py".

It looks like your version of python wasn't configured for using Tk,
which is used by IDLE.
