And it uses custom widgets, at least in the 3D look. Not sure about 2D.
Was ist ever discussed here to split up GNU backgammon into a pure
engine and a frontend, like gnuchess does it?
Ah, that would be really nice! Back in the old days the board representation on the GUI and the engine was really hard coupled, and that is part of the reason the GUI and the engine still has this hard coupling.
I would love to see a standard interface for communication between a backgammon GUI and a backgammon engine similar to UCI. Can someone suggest/define a UBgI - Universal Backgammon Interface?
