Yes: I *guess* /usr/local is not a part of the standard your C compiler
uses. If this is the case you can fix this by doing the following:
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
./configure CPPFLAGS="-I/usr/local/include" LDFLAGS="-L/usr/local/lib"
