In summary, my concerns are:

1) Being respectful towards the FreeBSD people by respecting their naming
   preferences.

2) Being consistent w.r.t. the meaning of the config.guess quadruples.
The situation for NetBSD is specially complicated because there are
   3 systems:
      - NetBSD kernel, NetBSD libc, NetBSD programs
      - NetBSD kernel, NetBSD libc, GNU programs
      - NetBSD kernel, GNU libc, GNU programs

The solution might involve extending the quadruples
        CPU_TYPE-MANUFACTURER-KERNEL-OPERATING_SYSTEM
   to quintuples
        CPU_TYPE-MANUFACTURER-KERNEL-LIBCTYPE-OPERATING_SYSTEM

Or it might go along the lines for Linux/libc5, where the libc type
or linker type was appended at the end. (Remember *-*-linux[-gnu]libc1 and
   *-*-linux[-gnu]oldld?)
