I think the problem is that we cannot seriously test any changes here.
Also, there are probably some backward-compatibility issues for gnulib
code that is derived from glibc.
Unless we run into real problems with the current setup, I'd let
sleeping dogs lie. Another possibility would be to autoconfize it, if
you want to take the trouble.
